Tammy is responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions including preparation of monthly adjusting entries and financial statements. Additionally, she oversees all human resource related activities. Prior to working for Milwaukee Achiever, Tammy worked for other small businesses in the Milwaukee area. Tammy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Ottawa University and is an active member of the Institute of Management Accountants and is a Certified Management Accountant.

Ger has been with Milwaukee Achiever since 2002 serving as an IT Support Specialist where he manages the organization's computer network and supports all technology-related issues as well as website maintenance. Ger holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is also CompTIA certified from TechSkills in A+, Network+, and MCP. In his downtime away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family and working around the house.

Holly McCoy
Programs Director and Interim Executive Director

Holly McCoy is the Milwaukee Achiever Programs Director.  Holly helps foster community partnerships through her outreach efforts, and frequently speaks on adult literacy issues and the adult literacy services available within Milwaukee. Holly graduated from Alverno College with her BA in English and Secondary Education, and earned her MA in Adult Education and Organizational Development. Holly serves on several community committees related to adult literacy and workforce development, is a Literacy Coalition of Southeastern Wisconsin president, and volunteers as the Weekend College Orientation Leader and external assessor for Alverno College.

Aaron Goyette
Layton Center Coordinator

Aaron is the Layton Center Coordinator, overseeing the ELL, ABE, GED, Computer and Bilingual Medical Interpreter programs conducted out of the Layton Center location. A Milwaukee native and graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he joined Milwaukee Achiever in 2010 after nine years of teaching high school English language learners in Japan and the Milwaukee area. Starting as an instructor and coordinator at a Milwaukee Achiever-contracted learning lab, Aaron moved into his current role in September 2012 and continues to provide support for tutors and learners seeking to improve themselves and their communities through education. When he is not at Layton Center, Aaron can be found spending time with his family, visiting museums, going to Brewers games and pursuing his interests in cinema and philately.

Sue Sterling
Layton Center Co-Coordinator

Sue Sterling is the Layton Center Co-Coordinator for Milwaukee Achiever. She has been with Milwaukee Achiever for nine years and has served as a GED Learning Lab instructor and coordinator. She holds a Masters degree in Educational Computing from Cardinal Stritch University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-“Madison. She is a certified teacher. Prior to joining Milwaukee Achiever, Sue taught in private and public schools and was a human resources supervisor for a Wisconsin corporation. During her free time she enjoys gardening and working on her blog (www.pleasingpanorama.wordpress.com).

MPS Family Resource Center Learning Lab Coordinator/Instructor at North Division High School

Carol Josten began with Milwaukee Achiever as a volunteer tutor. As a staff member, she has served as an instructor for GED, ABE, and ELL learners. She now is the coordinator and instructor in the Community Learning Center at North Division High School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Certificate in Urban Studies from Indiana University, a Master of Arts in Education from Mount Mary College, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.

Brooke Haley
MPS South Division Learning Lab

Brooke Haley is an MATC instructor contracted to work at Milwaukee Achiever as part of the Community Based Organization partnership. Brooke has been working part-time at Milwaukee Achiever in this capacity since 2007 and strongly believes in promoting success and empowerment through learning to those in the Milwaukee community. Brooke is also a full-time Adjunct Associate Professor of ESL at Marquette University and holds a Master of Arts in Foreign Language and Literature from UW-Milwaukee. When Brooke isn'™t working, she enjoys traveling, planning trips, and cooking with her children.

Christie Carter
MATC ELL/ESL Instructor, Layton Center

Christie Carter is an ESL/ELL instructor at Milwaukee Achiever's Layton Center. She has worked with learners at all levels of language acquisition, both 6 - 12 and adults. Christie loves the challenge each day brings and helping students where they are and guiding them to where they want to be! Christie spent 5 years providing workforce-readiness instruction to employees of local Milwaukee area businesses for Milwaukee Achiever before joining the mini lab partnership with MATC. Christie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in secondary English education with a minor in English as a Second Language. Prior to working at Milwaukee Achiever, Christie was an ESL teacher for the Whitnall School District. When Christie isn't teaching she enjoys reading, crafting, spending time with her friends and family and skiing.

Julie Kerr-Nicholson
MATC ABE/ASE/GED Instructor

The mini-lab at Milwaukee Achiever's Layton Center operates three days a week to assist learners in improving their academic skills and preparing them to take the GED tests. Julie assesses learners' reading, math, and language levels and then sets them up with computer software and other appropriate curriculum to help them achieve their goals. Julie graduated from Carroll College with a bachelor's degree in psychology and secondary education, then later earned a master's degree in Special Education from Cardinal Stritch University. Prior to working at Milwaukee Achiever, Julie taught in the adult learning center at Goodwill Industries for 4 years, and full time with at-risk and special education high school students for 13 years.

Michael Downey
MATC PI 5.09 Instructor

Michael Downey, MATC instructor for Milwaukee Achiever, is currently teaching science and math for the PI 5.09 program at Milwaukee Achiever. Prior to working here, he spent 17 years at the Milwaukee County House of Corrections teaching inmates without their high school diploma their GED skills. He has a bachelor's degree in History and a master's degree in Administrative Leadership both from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Monica Luksic
MATC Spanish GED Instructor, South Division High School

Monica Luksic is a MATC instructor contracted to work with Milwaukee Achiever as part of the Community Based Organization partnership. While Monica is new to Milwaukee Achiever, she is not new to education; Monica has been teaching adult learners since 2001. At Milwaukee Achiever, Monica is teaching math and science in Spanish to GED students. Monica graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and holds a Master of Science in Chemical and Life Sciences from the University of Maryland. When Monica is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, going for long runs, reading and traveling.

Steve Barron
Coordinator-ResCare Learning Lab

Steve Barron is the ResCare Coordinator for Milwaukee Achiever. Originally from Los Angeles, California, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from UCLA. Steve works part time as an ACE-Certified Personal Trainer and teaches a strength and conditioning class he created for the YMCA. In his free time, he enjoys snooty film, fancy wine, short walks, and even shorter runs.

Assistant Coordinator-ResCare Learning Lab

Melanie has a master’s degree in English and an international teaching certification, which she put to good use teaching in China and Germany. She has worked with Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Agency, has taught at Florida State College of Jacksonville, and at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. In her free time, Melanie enjoys reading and writing fiction, cooking, traveling, and hiking.
