PI 5.09 HSED Program

PI 5.09 HSED Program

Milwaukee Achiever's PI 5.09 Program is a high school equivalency diploma (HSED) option for adults (18.5+) who are interested in developing their skills and applying them in the real world. The program is based on the Common Core State Standards which emphasize communication skills in speaking, listening, and writing across content areas. PI 5.09 learners are assessed through their performance within the class and projects, rather than standardized testing. The PI 5.09 program is a holistic approach to learning which incorporates career readiness and health.

GED / HSED Tutoring

GED / HSED Tutoring

Milwaukee Achiever provides one-on-one, targeted tutoring in all of the subject areas of the GED or HSED. Learners who register with us are paired with a tutor who works with him or her throughout the process of earning the high school credential. Learners can begin their studies with any of the subject areas. Learners who complete their credential with Milwaukee Achiever are invited to participate in an annual cap-and-gown graduation ceremony. Learners also receive personalized career and education counseling from our staff as they plan for their next learning adventure. Sessions are eight-weeks in length.

English Language Learning Tutoring

We work with learners from over fifty countries and nationalities.  These individuals possess all levels of proficiency in English but they all share a passion to learn and to share their own unique backgrounds and experiences. English Language Learners (formerly known as English as a Second Language learners), are given a standardized evaluation in order to pinpoint their exact learning level and are matched with an individual tutor who works with them on a weekly basis. ELL students are engaged through a variety of media and their progress is monitored by Milwaukee Achiever staff utilizing our customized language competencies. Sessions are eight-weeks in length.

GED Mini-lab: Small Classes for Accelerated Learning

For GED students preferring an intimate classroom experience that meets several times per week, the "mini-lab" operated at both of our community learning centers might be just the right fit! Mini-lab courses are self-guided and make intensive use of computer-based learning. A knowledgeable and supportive instructor provides attention to each member of the class as he or she works towards each test. The mini-lab is operated on a semester-long basis in cooperation with Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Warehouse Worker Certificate Program

The Warehouse Worker Certificate program prepares the adult learner for entry-level employment in warehouse occupations. The Warehouse Worker program includes 40-hours of small-group classroom instruction and 8-hours of off-site Forklift operator training. Individuals successfully completing this program will have proof of skills training prior to applying for positions, thus satisfying the requirement of many employers for €œsemi-skilled workers€. Participants will receive a Warehouse Worker Certificate and Forklift Operator Certification.

Computer Literacy Classes

Computer Literacy Classes

The 21st Century Workforce requires a working knowledge of computers and the Internet. Milwaukee Achiever offers a customized curriculum and one-on-one tutoring so that computer literacy learners can become proficient in keyboarding, email etiquette, Internet-based job searches, word processing, spreadsheets and more! Learners will find the skills they acquire in this program invaluable in the workforce and in their educational pursuits.

Bilingual Medical Interpreter Training Program

Milwaukee Achiever offers an intensive, five-week program in Bilingual Medical Interpreting for qualifying individuals (pre-requisites include bilingual  Spanish-English fluency, a high school diploma or GED/HSED, a desire to work in the medical field). Our BMI program quickly prepares participants to become competent, ethical medical interpreters. Milwaukee Achiever proudly partners with one of the regions largest healthcare providers, Community Care, to offer program participants with a follow-up practicum that gives learners practical experience in the field. Unique in our area, the BMI program offers tuition assistance to qualifying candidates. The program has recently been adapted for bilingual speakers of other languages as well.

Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services have joined forces to promote adult literacy! Adults are invited to take advantage of literacy programming at MPS District Parent Resource Centers located at North Division High School and South Division High School. As an MPS parent, you are entitled to use the following educational services free of charge:
