Let me tell you about the city of my heart. I never studied in this city, never lived in this city, but I love everything about Cracow. It is one of the largest and oldest cities in Poland. It was founded in 1257 and was the capital of Poland for many years. It was the seat of many kings.
There are many legends about Cracow; for example, the name “Cracow” is derived from the man Krak, who founded this city. A very popular legend is about the bugler of Cracow. When the army of Tatarzy came to attack the city, the bugler started playing to sound the alarm. He saved Cracow. Today that melody affects everyday life in the ancient city. Each day at noon, the public radio station is silent for a couple of seconds, and then they play this melody.
Cracow is the center of Polish scientific, artistic, and cultural life. This city is the spiritual heart of Poland. Every year thousands of local and international tourists visit this place. In 1978, UNESCO added Cracow’s historic center to the list of world heritage sites.
If you ever visit Poland and you want to understand true Polish culture, you must experience Cracow. Remember these names: the Main Market Square (the largest in Europe), St, Mary’s Basilica, Sukiennice Cloth Hall, the Zygmunt Bell, Castle of Wawel and the Cathedral. Don’t forget about the galleries, pubs and restaurants. I encourage you to find more information about my favorite city. My words cannot describe this city. If you could see it, you would understand.
