Executive Women International Philanthropy Committee To Support Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services
Executive Women International (EWI) is an organization whose Milwaukee Chapter membership represents over 60 businesses throughout southeastern Wisconsin. On Thursday, February 19, 2009, the Milwaukee Chapter’s Philanthropy Committee unanimously adopted literacy as their 2009 focus, with all funds/events to support Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services.
The following plan was established for 2009:
- March – April – Be a Virtual Volunteer Tutor – assist learners who are experiencing economic hardship by helping them with their class fees.
- May – June – Gloria’s Garden – assist with Milwaukee Achiever’s Base Program beautification project and hand out books to all who participate on the two planting dates.
- July – August – Book or a Buck Drive – collect literature for children from birth through 8th grade. The goal is to collect 1,600 books so all Milwaukee Achiever learners will be able to read to their children/grandchildren/nephews and nieces.
- September – November – Fall into Literacy – enhance learning opportunities for all Milwaukee Achiever learners through the support of the curriculum Book Drive by over 60 Milwaukee companies. From ESL picture dictionaries to GED textbooks, many resources are expected to assist with adult learning and workforce development.
