Mount Mary College in Community (MMCIC)
In 1998-99, Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services was invited to partner with Mount Mary College at Silver Spring Center to initiate a pilot program called “Mount Mary College in Community (MMCIC),” a collaborative course to prepare individuals for entering college and/or to enhance job skills.
MMCIC still continues today. It is a college preparatory series of classes, focusing on written communication and computer literacy to prepare students to attend Mount Mary College, awarding them 10.5 college credits over a two-year period upon successful course completion. The credits are also accepted at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).
Students enrolled in MMCIC attend Milwaukee Achiever’s Silver Spring Center for the first semester and complete the program at Mount Mary College. In order to accommodate a variety of schedules, classes are offered one evening a week and Saturday mornings at both Silver Spring Center and Mount Mary College.
On January 30, 2009, thirty-five Mount Mary College in Community students were honored at Milwaukee Achiever’s Sixth Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony for having completed 2.5 or more college credits in the MMCIC program.
