Goals

Key goals of Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services include responsibility and goal setting, consistent growth, maximum achievement, and cross-cultural learning. Adult learners not only learn how to read, write, and/or speak English, but they also build the communication skills, self-esteem, pre-employment skills, and attitudes needed for on-going success in their lives. Through active participation in our tutoring / mentoring program, adult learners will:

improve fundamental occupational and employment - related knowledge in order to improve job performance, advance in a job, or find more skilled employment
develop computer literacy in order to understand and utilize computer technology in the workplace
become knowledgeable regarding personal health care issues, so as to be able to directly discuss issues with a physician or health care worker without relying on their children to interpret
understand and utilize banking services, social services, etc.
become literate so as to stop the cycle of intergenerational illiteracy
develop skills to participate in state and local systems of government
become active in seeking solutions for the challenges in their neighborhoods and larger communities
