Achievements
Since its founding in 1983, Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services has:
| successfully served over 9,500 highly motivated adults who have come to us because they identify education as the key component to a self-directed, productive life | |
| served approximately 650 adult learners per year for the last several years | |
| opened Layton Center in 1995-1996 to accommodate the needs of an on-going, ever-increasing waiting list of southside adult learners | |
| expanded Pierce Center in 2002-2003 to allow for a merger of the two southside centers, Layton Center and Pierce Center | |
| created computer labs at the centers to reinforce learning and increase computer literacy |
- In 1998, Pierce Center was the recipient of sixteen (16) computers and four (4) laser printers from Harley-Davidson Company, who maintained and updated the computers/printers periodically for several years.
- Silver Spring Center was initially provided twelve computers and a printer through grants to help establish “College in the Community” (computer education and business English) in collaboration with Mt. Mary College.
- In 2003, Blue Cross/Blue Shield donated many computers and printers, and currently continues to update them at both Pierce and Silver Spring Centers.

| provided bilingual driver’s license materials to facilitate learners interested in obtaining a driver’s license | |
| reorganized staff to include support staff to enhance general program performance | |
| initiated family literacy projects |
- A Healthy Future provided ESL tutoring in the context of basic family health and safety.
- Parents as Reading Partners provided quality literature for adult learners in their homes so as to build family literacy skills.
- Books for Learners provided books for adult learners to read in their homes with their children.
